Round Two of the Supreme Scrapbooking Tournament

Good Morning Scrappy Peeps!

Happy Valentines day to you all!

So it looks like I have made through to round two of the tournament. Thanks to my voters I did much better than I anticipated so once again a heartfelt and humble thank you for your belief in my work.

For this round of the tournament we were required to do another double page layout in a monochromatic scheme of our choosing. There could be NO BLACK....seriously that is my go to color....but no black it must be to qualify. Then they tossed in a minimum of ONE black and white photo (the only black allowed). In addition to all of that at least one photo must cross both pages.   I wasn't sure if it had to be the B&W but as luck would have it I was able to do two crossing the page.

Memories of a Puppy

So I chose browns as my Monochromatic color scheme. Which is right up my vintage style alley anyway.  So once again I scrapped from the stash only having to reprint the one puppy under the table photo to meet the B&W criteria.   The background paper is actually re-purposed cardstock from a stack of paper that got a wee bit soggy and warpped but you can hardly tell at all after I was done.   I used a lot of my Ranger distress inks on what started as Beige background. Frayed Burlap, Walnut, Vintage Photo and with my Copics I brought in the Dark Umbra for the writing.

I am a texture girl and I like lots of it in my work. So to do so and keep the Monchromatic theme was a bit of a challenge for me. However, the stash did not fail me . Twine, and wooden beads allowed me to create a creative dog collar for this little girl with the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Alpha Tiles were perfect with the assorted browns used. I matted MIA on a Chocolate brown scrap of cardstock to make them pop.

I like to make dog collars on my page but I didn't have the proper color buckle or leather so again out came the beads along with the Tim Holtz Bronze jump rings and Muse Tokens  - from which I chose Unique and Thoughts.....because the photos of my Son showing such tenderness and vulnerability with this puppy was unique and not something many people get to see. Thoughts because my head is filled with thoughts about how this poor little thing is doing and what sort of life did it end up living with its careless owners.

I found some material like stuff in my stash of scraps and I liked the airy feel it gave along with added texture. It is under both vertical photos on the edge of each page..

Well that is it for now. I will be back in a bit with my Card submission for round two as soon as I sort out in my head just what and how I am gonna do it. LOL

The Supreme International Scrapbooking Tournament 2014

Good Morning Everyone!  Yes here I am once again popping in to share some creative bits.  These two pieces are for the International Supreme Scrapbooking Tournament of which I am lucky enough to be one of the 12 members on Team Canada. I might add that I am in the company of some very talented ladies that ensure Team Canada is gonna be a force to reckon with.

This event goes for eight weeks  and there were be several challenges to be completed until we are down to a head to head competition. The tournament is starting out with 200 people world wide. At the end of this first challenge only a 100 will move on.  There are two divisions a scrapbooking and mixed media group and a card making group.

Our first challenge for the Card Divas as we are known is to make an ATC (Artist Trading Card) that represents a quote or pharse aboout home.  The restrictions were that it had to have the quote/ saying about home visible on the card, no flowers, no spray inks no images of a house. Nothing cut from a machine.

So for my piece I have pulled out the scraps of Graphic 45 papers, Rangers Stickles and Distress Inks, Tim Holtz Gears, and beaded chaain, I am not sure where the clock image came from as it was a scrap too.

The Scrapbooking Divas had a home themed challenge as well, it had to be a double page spread with the theme of 1000 steps from my home. It must contain a minimum of three photos, no spray inks and must contain a minimum of 50 words of visible journaling.

So my take away from this is that of the 1000's of photos that I take in a year...very few are outside my house in my neighbor hood. In fact I had to go all the way back to photos from 1998 to do this project. I will have to work on that.

So for this challenge I used Candian Scrapbookers Super stock white cardstock, Rangers Distress Inks, Tim Holtz trims, Making Memories Rub on Letters ( now there is a blast from my stash, lol), Sizzix brick die, and window box die from the Tim Holtz collection. Oh and my Trusty Zig writer.

So I am proud to say that every single bit of this was from the stash (my goal in this challenge is to use up what I have and only replace adhesives). A word to the wise.... don't let your 6 month old puppy hang with you unless you want to change your whole design. After spending hours cutting and trimming out the bricks I left them on the table and went to the bathroom. Pleases note that I was not smart enough to lock up the puppy and as a result found my self short a few brick pieces and of a much different shape than I had intended.  Upon reflection I think Caine did me a favour but I wasn't feeling it at the time.

One Of Those Moments When You Just Have To Do It.....

Every now and then you come across something that just motivates the socks off of you to design a piece.  Well this photo from the talented Julie Cortens of Julie Cortens Photography Just sang to my heart. So here is the layout that I created.

Back in April while attending Camp Croppin 2013 I was lucky enough to be a teaching assistant to the wonderfully talented Graphic 45 team.  Diane Schultz the founder and her daughter Aimee appeared to be particularly pleased with the card that I gave them as a thank you. Diane said she was particularly looking forward to seeing what I would create with the Steampunk Spells line of paper that was announced that weekend.  I wasn't sure if she was serious or just being polite but after chatting with some other more experienced  professional Designers, they suggested that I take them at their word and share my creations.

So with that said......I waited patiently (ok, Lori and Cayla, maybe not so patiently) for this line of paper to arrive.  Now when you first look at it your breath is taken away with the colors and images.  Then I realized it was really geared for Halloween.....a holiday that I love....but have no photos to scrap. So I have challenged myself to do 45 projects using this line (both big and small) and not get trapped in the Halloween hangup that I usually do when I see pumpkins and bats.   So heck, those of you that still pop in and check to see if I have done anything.........well here is your chance. LOL

In the meantime and between time I thought I would share with you a few of my dabbling s from the past few months.  I haven't been all that productive with  the selling of the house and a flying trip out to the coast with my Dad to see his siblings that he hasn't seen for about 10 years (at least that was our best guess).

This layout was me being impatient....I know so hard to believe that I would be impatient. I had the incredible privilege to have a photo shoot with the fabulous Allison Orthnor. I wanted to scrap the image she had shared with me....but had not released publicly so I altered it up and made this fun layout that was filled with tags. Each of which reminds me of something I NEED to do to let the past stay where it is and discover a future that will lead me to unknown places and all kinds of fun.

So I ventured off to Winnipeg as well this spring and had a great deal of fun surprising my long time scrapping pal and friend Thelma Findlay.  I loved calling her up and asking her if she was ready to Crop and Create that weekend.   It was more fun as she figured out that I was also going to attend.  Her lovely hubby Gavin was instrumental in helping me surprise her....and he surprised me with a little bag of treats from him. I guess my eating his macaroons in Calgary all those years ago left a lasting impression on him. LOL  So above is a card that I inked up using Tim Holtz's new Stopwatch Die.

I am not sure why but I have really been loving this pocket cards lately......Each one comes with three or four pull outs that I fill with special messages.........This one was made for my dear Thelma who claimed it before I could actually sign and give it to her......ROFLMAO.  I am wondering if it is a trend with creative souls that we have no patience for things to happen in their own time and we must hurry things along.

Well if I am going to accomplish this task of 45 projects using the G45 papers.......I better get off the computer and get on with it.  Have a great week everyone!
